DEGREE OF COMPARISON

Adalah perbandingan derajar antara suatu hal misalnya Ridho lebih rajin dari Ani, buku itu adalah buku yang paling mahal yang ada di toko ini, dan sebagainya.

Secara umum, aturannya yaitu dengan membandingkan antara jumlah suku kata (syllable) dalam suatu kata:

		Lebih	Paling
1 atau 2 suku kata	Old	Older than	The oldest
	Happy	Happier than	The happiest
3 suku kata	Important	More important than	The most important

Contoh:

•  Reza is oldes than Findy 
• The happiest moment of Mr. Jack is when he got married 
• Keep struggling is the most important thing of our lives

Beberapa contoh kata lainnya:

1 and 2 syllables      : warm, young, nice, big, tall, simple, angry, funny, happy, hard,

    early, clever, common, narrow, polite, dan lain-lain.

3 syllables               : difficult, important, interesting, beautiful, dan lain-lain.

Akan tetapi, ada beberapa kata yang tidak mengikuti rumusan diatas. Kata-kata tersebut mempunyai bentuk comparative (lebih) dan superlative (paling) tersendiri. Kata-kata tersebut adalah:

·         Good              - Better than                         - The best

·         Bad                 - Worse than                        - The worst

·         Far                 - Further/Farther than        - The further/Furthest

·         Old                 - Older/Elder than               - The oldest/eldest
