MODAL DAN CONTOH KALIMAT

Contoh modal yang sering mencul adalah:

May – Might              : mungkin/boleh

Can – Could                : dapat

Will – Would              : akan

Shall – Should           : harus

Must                           : harus

Had batter                : lebih baik (saran)

Ought to                    : lebih baik (saran)

Aturan dalam penggunaan modal:
1. Jika setelah modal itu kata kerja, maka kerjanya itu harus menggunakan kata kerja dasar (V1) yang tidak ditambahkan apa-apa.
2. Pengecualian adalah untuk modal ought to yang memakai to sebelum kata kerja.
3. Jika setelah modal itu kata sifat (adj) atau kata benda (noun) maka be harus ditambahkan setelah modal yang dipakai.

Contoh:

·         She can do it

·         She cans do it (contoh salah)/ She can to do it (contoh salah)

·         She ought to do it

·         They must be a doctor

·         We should be polite

·         She can not do it/ thye must not be a doctor

·         Can she do it?/ Should we be polite?

Polite request using modal 
1. Polite request with “I” as the subject

·           May I borrow your pen?

·           Could I borrow your pen?

·           Can I borrow your pen?

2. Polite request with “You” as the subject

·           Would you pass the salt?

·           Will you please pass the salt?

·           Can you pass the salt?

3. Polite request with would you might

·           Would you mind if I close the window?

·           Would you mind if I used the phone?

(cirinya setelah would you mind ada if dan memakai V3, yang melakukan adalah kita sendiri bukan orang lain)

·           Would you mind closing the window?

(cirinya adalah memakai V+ing, yang melakukan adalah orang lain)
